Review Of 12/18/09 Bowery Ballroom, New York, NY

12/18/09 New York, NY

Last Saturday Donna the Buffalo returned to New York's Bowery Ballroom for a pre-holiday show in the City. The band's set included some interesting choices, such as a Look to the Future opener, early-set versions of Family Picture and a spacey Conscious Evolution, a sweat-inducing Hot Tamale Baby, and a soaring Mystic Water. The night also featured an encore that was almost a full show in itself: Jeb and Tara doing There Must Be as a duet, an onstage marriage proposal, It's A New Day, and then Walk on the Wild Side and Funky Side with the Believers. Read details in my review of DtB's performance on 12/18/09 in New York, NY. I also posted a few cellphone photos of dubious quality at http://twitpic.com/photos/donnafans. Enjoy, and if you've got any photos of this gig, feel free to send them to me at fans@donnafans.com. (posted 12/20/09)

Just Added: Photos From 12/11/09 Millvale, PA

12/11/09 Millvale, PA

Each December for quite some years, Donna the Buffalo has treated fans in the Northeast to what has affectionately become known as the "holiday run" of shows, a series of gigs on consecutive weekends at some of the band's favorite venues in the region. The first two shows took place at Mr. Small's Theater outside Pittsburgh, PA and Town Ballroom in Buffalo, NY. Frequent DonnaFans.com contributor Larry Franklin was at the former, and provides us with 12 photos of DtB playing on 12/11/09 in Millvale, PA. On this night, the band played an early-set Let Love Move Me, The Mill, Love and Gasoline (by request) and an absolutely legendary version of Mystic Water. They capped off the night with Jeb and Tara performing There Must Be as a duet, and then the entire band did Funky Side. Thanks to taper Lee Maine, a BitTorrent of this show is already available at http://bt.etree.org/details.php?id=530704. Thanks so much for the photos, Larry! The holiday run continues next weekend with shows at the Bowery Ballroom in New York, NY and Bearsville Theatre in Woodstock, NY.

New Photos: 12/5 Ithaca, NY

12/5/09 Ithaca, NY

Donna the Buffalo's roots run deep in the Ithaca area, so any time the band is able to play a gig there, it's cause for major celebration. The most recent of these took place on an early December night, as Ithaca's venerable State Theatre hosted Life Is Water, A Concert to Defend the Finger Lakes Against Unsafe Gas Drilling. Tim Andersen, the person responsible for the most excellent Funkyside.com, a site dedicated to music of all genres from the Finger Lakes region, was at this show and kindly shares with us 12 photos of DtB performing on 12/5/09 in Ithaca, NY. After spirited performances by the Horse Flies and Sim Redmond Band, DtB took the stage for a set filled with favorites old and new, including Family Picture, It's Love Time, Conscious Evolution, Ding Dang Dong, and Funkyside. You can already listen to and download this show--in addition to taking these photos, Tim also made a soundboard recording and uploaded it to the Live Music Archive at www.archive.org/details/donna2009-12-05.sbd. Tim, on behalf of DonnaFans everywhere, thanks so much! (posted 12/7/09)
