Unofficial history of Donna the Buffalo

Part 1: The Early Days (1994-2002) by Robert "Gumby" Hillard

An official history of Donna the Buffalo has not yet been written, but in 2002 and 2003, Robert "Gumby" Hillard made several posts to the Herd email discussion list recounting the band's various lineup changes from when he first saw DtB in 1994 until 2002, the White Tape (originally released in 1989), and his impressions of seeing the band in the mid 1990s. Rob was gracious enough to allow DonnaFans.com to publish his original posts here (Thanks, Rob!). If you have any additions or corrections to this information, I'd love to hear from you: fans@donnafans.com.

Part 2: Recent History (2002-2008) by Jeff Bauer

I wrote this brief recap of the band's lineup from 2002 through 12/31/08, and will periodically update it as appropriate. For a month-by-month story of what the band has done since January 2005, visit the Site Archives section. If you have any additions or corrections to this information, I'd love to hear from you: fans@donnafans.com.

Part 3: Zydeco Experiment by Robert "Gumby" Hillard

Zydeco Experiment was the original name of Donna the Buffalo's zydeco alter ego; at some point, they began calling themselves Buffalo Zydeco. The band uses these names when they performed zydeco-only sets with a rotating line of friends and guests, most often at the Great Blue Heron and GrassRoots festivals, and usually with members of the Frank family. In early 2006, Robert "Gumby" Hillard posted some memories of the orgins of ZE to the Herd email discussion list, which he's generously allowing me to archive here (Thanks, Rob!). If you have any additions or corrections to this information, I'd love to hear from you: fans@donnafans.com.
