Maggie Roberge must have had a heck of a good time at Donna the Buffalo's show last Friday night: First she took a bunch of great photos of DtB playing on 2/5/10 at The Neighborhood Theatre in Charlotte, NC. Then, she capped off the night by (at Jeb's urging) joining the band onstage to lead a sing-along of No Place Like The Right Time (right). To give Tara's voice a well-deserved rest, the band played a set heavy on Jeb Puryear songs this night, including Tomorrow Still Knows, Me and Depression, Ding Dang Dong, It's Love Time, and the new one, Tonight, Tomorrow and Yesterday. Jeb also stepped up and took lead vocals on Blue Sky and Family Picture. After the band closed the set with Maggie on NPLTRT, for the encore first Jeb and Tara came out to do Mystic Water as a duet, and then the entire band played America. Thanks to taper Jack Bender, you can already listen to or download this show from www.archive.org/details/donna2010-02-05.donna2010-02-05.donna2010-02-05. Maggie's father, Paul, also has kindly shared one of his beautifully written reviews of this show, which I'll post shortly. Thanks, Roberges! On Thursday, 1/28/10, just ahead of their two-night run at the Lincoln Theatre in Raleigh, NC, Donna the Buffalo stopped by Studio B of WNCW 88.7 FM in Spindale, NC to play a few songs and be interviewed. John Watson was there, and shot some very interesting videos of this unique in-studio performance, which he posted to his Watson Video Productions page on YouTube. John kindly shares his professional-quality videos of the band doing Ding Dang Dong (during the interview Jeb says this song "is not really titled"), If You Only Could (my personal favorite), and Spinning World, as well as the interview with host Martin Anderson. Thanks, John! (posted 2/4/10)New Photos: Raleigh, NC 1/29/10 & 1/30/10
After going to Donna the Buffalo shows for a while, you're sure to notice a rather unusual phenomena: The worst the weather, the better the band seems to play. No one knows for sure when this pattern first started, but DtB's recent two-night run at the Lincoln Theatre was a prime example. In the middle of a serious winter storm, the band put forth the type of shows "that keeps you coming back for sure," said Bill Davis, who kindly shares with us 12 photos of DtB performing on 1/29/10 and 1/30/10 in Raleigh, NC. The band's set on the first night included Hot Tamale Baby, Tomorrow Still Knows, Voice in My Head, Let It Snow, Faith to Believe, and Yonder, and an encore that started with Jeb doing a solo version of On Our Way On, followed by covers of Dylan's Subterranean Homesick Blues and the Beatles' Helter Skelter with the Believers, who opened both nights. Though that was hard to beat, on Saturday the band gave it their best, playing Rockin' in the Weary Land, In Another World>Revolution, Ring of Fire, Peggy-O, and the new Jeb song Tonight, Tomorrow, and Yesterday. The Saturday show's encore with the Believers consisted of covers of the Dead's Friend of the Devil and R.E.M.'s The One I Love, followed by Do It For Love. "The band reached perfection on Saturday night," Bill said. Thanks so much for the photos! (posted 1/31/10)
