DtB Debuts New Jeb Song In Greenville, SC
On Wednesday, 10/22/08, Donna the Buffalo performed for the first time a new Jeb Puryear song as the first part of a three-song encore during a show at The Handlebar in Greenville, SC. Thanks to Scott Payne, you can watch a video of the band performing the new Jeb tune on YouTube. The song, which might be called Better Than I Am, is a soulful ballad. "A recurring verse is 'I hope the grace of God will wash my sins away,'" wrote Paul Roberge on the Herd email discussion list. "This is a beautiful song, both lyrically and instrumentally, that left me with a lump in my throat." Thanks so much for the video, Scott! (posted 10/27/08)

Double Your Pleasure In Knoxville, TN
On Tuesday, 10/21/08, Donna the Buffalo pulled off a rare doubleheader--two gigs on the same day--in Knoxville, TN. At lunchtime, the band stopped by radio station WDVX for the "Blue Plate Special," a set performed in front of a studio audience and webcast live. Later that day, DtB headed over to The Valarium, a tricky-to-find venue in Knoxville's warehouse district. John Yust was at both gigs, and provides us with 12 photos of Donna the Buffalo playing two shows in Knoxville, TN on 10/21/08. The daytime gig looked like a fun one, performed in an unusual if somewhat cramped setting in front of a crowd consisting of a smattering of Herd plus some local workers and curiosity-seekers. During the evening set, the band treated an enthusiast crowd to such goodies as Greatest Love, Wood and Stone, the seldom-heard Looking For a Place To Be, Push Comes to Shove, and a Conscious Evolution encore. Thanks for the photos and report, John! (posted 10/23/08)

New Photos: 10/17/08 LEAF, Black Mountain, NC
Held each spring and fall, the Lake Eden Arts Festival (LEAF) has been growing in popularity, and in fact the most recent event was sold out before the first band hit the stage. Donna the Buffalo returned to the LEAF this fall, and frequent DonnaFans.com contributor John Yust kindly shares 12 photos of Donna the Buffalo performing on 10/17/08 at Camp Rockmount in Black Mountain, NC. The band's two-hour set on the Lakeside main stage this Friday night featured a mix of songs from Silverlined and beyond. As has been his custom lately, Jeb dedicated These Are Better Days to the Barack Obama campaign. The two-song encore consisted of Come to Life followed by Yonder. Vic Stafford continues his role on drums. This gig marked the beginning of a monster run for the band: eight shows in five states in nine days, right up through Magnolia Festival. Thanks for the photos and setlist, John! (posted 10/20/08)

Coverage Of Shakori Hills GrassRoots Fest
Last week Donna the Buffalo made their annual trek down to Silk Hope, NC for the Fall Shakori Hills GrassRoots Festival. The band played their own sets on Thursday and Saturday nights, with Preston Frank on Friday night and Sunday afternoon, and the traditional all-star jam on Sunday evening. Frequent DonnaFans.com contributor was on hand for the entire event, and shares with us 19 photos of Donna the Buffalo at Silk Hope, NC on 10/9 through 10/12. Highlights included It's A New Day, Me and Depression, and Yonder on Thursday, Jeb on his Kent guitar for a trio of songs on Saturday, and a ton of interesting combinations during Sunday's jam, such as the band with members of Kelley and the Cowboys for a pair of Patsy Cline songs, with Richie Stearns for Ribbons and Bows, and with the Duhks for James Brown's Gonna Have a Funky Good Time and Led Zeppelin's Whole Lotta Love. Vic Stafford played drums for all of DtB's sets at this festival. Thanks, Kimmy, for the photos, and thanks to Paul Roberge for the timely setlists and reviews. (posted 10/16/08)
