Vote For DtB To Appear At FloydFest '06!
For each of the past three years, Donna the Buffalo has performed at FloydFest in Floyd, VA. For the 2006 FloydFest, which will take place 7/28/06 - 7/30/06, the organizers are asking fans to vote for the bands they want to see. If you want Donna the Buffalo to play FloydFest this summer, say so in an email to info@floydfest.com, but don't wait--the deadline is JANUARY 7. Thanks to Warren "Cat" Catlett for the heads-up. More Photos From Troy, NY
I finally got to meet frequent DonnaFans.com contributer Bob Bunce--we were standing next to each other taking photos of Donna the Buffalo. Bob got some terrific shots of the band playing on 12/17/05 at Revolution Hall in Troy, NY, including an interesting perspective from the soundboard, a few of Jeb, and several good ones of the entire band. (My photos of that show are here.)Thanks so much, Bob, and have a good New Year's. (posted 12/26/05)

Gumby's Informal DtB History Robert "Gumby" Hillard has been a fan of Donna the Buffalo for over a decade. In 2002 and 2003, he made several posts to the Herd email discussion list about the band's various line-up changes, the White Tape, and his impressions of seeing the band in the mid 1990s. While an official history of Donna the Buffalo has not yet been written, many members saved these posts and periodically repost them to the list whenever someone asks about the band's early days. Rob was gracious enough to allow DonnaFans.com to publish his original posts here. (Thanks, Rob!) (posted 12/23/05)

Just Added: Review Of Troy, NY 12/17/05 Before seeing Donna the Buffalo play at Revolution Hall last Saturday, 12/17/05, I was beginning to wonder if my interest in this band was starting to fade, and if I still really wanted to travel to see them as often as I did this year. After I saw this show, I was wondering how I was going to get to Florida for New Year's at the Coliseum and the not-so-secret New Year's Day show, or to the southeast for the January run, or even out to the West Coast...they were THAT GOOD. For a better description of what went down, read my review of the band's show in Troy, NY on 12/17/05. (posted 12/22/05)

More Photos From NYC Paul Livingstone has been going to see Donna the Buffalo for several years now, but his photos of DtB performing at the Bowery Ballroom in New York, NY on 11/19/05 are his first contribution to DonnaFans.com. Hopefully they won't be his last. Paul caught some great shots, including this one of Jeb the Mechanic (right) as well as one of everyone but Kathy. Keep 'em coming, Paul, and enjoy the Colorado shows! (posted 12/20/05)

Tix Still Available For New Year's Eve If you're planning on seeing Donna the Buffalo on New Year's Eve at the Coliseum in St. Petersburg, FL, you'd be wise to get your tickets in advance--last year's show sold out, and some folks who planned on buying tickets at the door didn't get in. As of 12/20/05 you could still get tickets by calling the Coliseum box office at 727-892-5202 or buying them online from Ticketmaster.com. (posted 12/20/05)

New Photos: Troy, NY Last night, 12/17/05, Donna the Buffalo returned to Revolution Hall in Troy, NY for the second time this year, and the band was welcomed as as enthusiastically as they were the first time they played this venue in April. Highlights included a monster five-song encore that started with the full band playing Nashville Christmas and Yeah You Right. After DtB left the stage, just Jeb came back out and played Let Love Move Me and a ballad (title, anyone?). Then Tara joined him and the two perfomed 40 Days & 40 Nights as a duet, as they had the night before in Ithaca. Check out my eight photos of the band in Troy, NY on 12/17/05, playing a fitting conclusion to the annual Holiday run of shows in the Northeast. (posted 12/18/05)

Johnny D's: 1 a.m. And You're Done When Donna the Buffalo played at Johnny D's in Somerville, MA last Saturday, some of the Herd were less than pleased with how they and the band were treated by the venue, and especially how management pulled the plug on the band exactly at curfew. Others had no problems. On one thing everyone could agree: The band was in the groove. Bob Bunce's six photos of DtB performing in Somerville, MA on 12/10/05 will give you an idea of what went on. (posted 12/17/05)

Triumphant Return To Northampton Northampton, MA has been a pretty regular stop for Donna the Buffalo for the past few years, so when the band rolled into town for a gig at Pearl Street, it was hard to believe it had been almost a year to the day since they last graced Northampton with their presence (at a benefit for the Food Bank of Western Massachusetts at Smith College's John Greene Hall). If you don't know why this show was nicknamed "Lizfest," you're obviously not on The Herd email discussion list. Bob Bunce provides a half-dozen images of DtB laying it down in Northampton, MA on 12/9/05--but none of Liz. (posted 12/15/05)

New Year's Day Show In Tampa? Rumor has it that the band will play a show on New Year's Day at Skipper's Smokehouse in Tampa, FL. Alledgedly, the show won't be officially announced until after the New Year's Eve gig at the Coliseum in nearby St. Peterburg sells out. That part of the rumor doesn't make much sense, but DtB has played at Skipper's for three of the last five New Year's Days. (posted 12/15/05)

Fun In Fall River One of the things the Herd likes best about when Donna the Buffalo plays at the Narrows Center for the Performing Arts in Fall River, MA is that the venue is BYOB. The space is also apparently a funky one, a converted church that lends a spiritual air to the band's performances. Bob Bunce generously shares with us four photos of the band playing in Fall River, MA last Thursday, 12/8/05. Bob also came through with photos of the rest of the weekend's Massachusetts run--Lizfest at Pearl Street in Northampton on 12/9 and Johnny D's in Somerville (just outside of Boston) on 12/11--which will be on DonnaFans.com soon. Thanks, Bob! (posted 12/12/05)

Three More NY Gigs, Then New Year's Eve Donna the Buffalo will finish off 2005 with a trio shows in their home state--at the Corning Museum of Glass in Corning on 12/15, The Haunt in Ithaca on 12/16, and Revolution Hall in Troy on 12/17--followed by the annual New Year's Eve show at the Coliseum in St. Petersburg, FL. Unlike the past few years, there are no other FL shows scheduled to kick off the new year. (posted 12/12/05)

Winner Of The DtB Boombox Contest! (Not Really) Here's an interesting photo from Floydfest 2004 that's not quite what it seems to be. DonnaFans.com contributor Warren "Cat" Catlett explains: "Mike Coffman is a childhood friend of mine who I always see at Floydfest (he lives nearby). His son Chris has become quite the Donna fan. Mike and Chris were walking near the bus and stopped to chat with Kathy. She called everybody over for a group photo for Chris' benefit. He was pretty psyched up. Somebody on the bus had just gotten a new boombox, so they used it as a prop." Thanks for the photos, guys, and maybe someday the Donna the Buffalo boombox contest will become a reality. Vote For Your Favorite Temporary Misery Temporary Misery is the name of a new Tara Nevins song that Donna the Buffalo debuted on 10/15/05 in Falls Church, VA. Since then, they've been tweaking it, sometimes playing it in very different styles, including as fast-tempo rock song and as a reggae song. Our friends Rand and Carol at HaveYouHerd.com have put together a cool page where you can listen to MP3s of three versions of Temporary Misery and vote for the one you like best. Tara and the band may have other plans for this song, of course, but it's all in good fun. (posted 12/9/05)

New Photos: Bowery Ballroom, 11/19/05 New York City's Bowery Ballroom is somewhat of a local venue for me, and I planned to shoot plenty of photos when Donna the Buffalo played there last month. Unfortunately, life doesn't always go as planned, and I missed the show. Fortunately, the ever-reliable Bob Bunce was there, and shared with DonnaFans.com three photos of DtB at the Bowery Ballroom on 11/19/05, including this great shot of Tom (right). Thanks, Bob, and I'll catch you next time. (posted 12/7/05)

DtB Will Return To Colorado In Feb Donna the Buffalo will play three shows in Colorado in early February on the way back from its West Coast mini tour. The band will be at the Sandbar in West Vail on 2/2, the Bluebird Theater in Denver on 2/3, and the Boulder Theater in Boulder on 2/4. These shows presumably conclude a tour that will start in Seattle on 1/25 and pass through Portland (1/26), San Francisco (1/27), Quincy, CA (1/29) and Park City, UT (1/31). Because shows are added frequently and sometimes disappear, keep an eye on the Tour dates page of the band's official site, DonnaTheBuffalo.com. (posted 12/4/05)

High Times At Higher Ground Sometimes good things take a little while to develop. Such is the case with Bob Bunce's photos of Donna the Buffalo performing at Higher Ground in Burlington, VT on 11/18/05. Bob caught most or all of the band in several of his shots of this show, which was the second time this year DtB has played in VT (the other time was also at Higher Ground back in April). Thanks, Bob! (posted 12/1/05)

More New Shows Have Been Announced The Tour dates page of the band's official site, DonnaTheBuffalo.com, has been updated to include several new dates, including shows in Park City, UT (on 1/31) and Bean Blossom, IN (at Magfest Midwest on 7/15-7/16), as well as Donna the Buffalo's annual appearances at Great Blue Heron Festival in Panama, NY (7/7-7/9) and GrassRoots in Trumansburg, NY (7/20-7/23). However, the show previously listed for Reno, NV is no longer on this web page. (posted 12/1/05)
