Donna the Buffalo News & Rumors

October 2005

Johnson City Show Is Cancelled The Magic City Music Hall, which was formerly known as the Touch of Texas, has been the site of many a fine Donna the Buffalo show in recent years, but unfortunately, the band's show at this Johnson City, NY venue that was originally scheduled for Friday, 11/4, has been cancelled due to "structural problems with the building." According to the band's official website, www.DonnaTheBuffalo.com, this show will be rescheduled once building renovations are complete. DtB will play a private gig on Saturday, 11/5, and then heads out the following week for shows in Erie, PA (on Thursday, 11/10), Millville, PA (11/11), and Buffalo, NY (11/12). (posted 10/29/05)

First Photos From MagFest All reports from last weekend's MagnoliaFest in Live Oak, FL have been absolutely glowing, proving that the organizers, bands, and Herd all made the right decision to go ahead with the event and not let the forecast for yet another hurricane, which wasn't projected to (and thankfully didn't) come close to Live Oak, ruin what many have been calling the best Fest of the year. Bob Bunce shot many photos at this year's MagFest; we'll start by sharing a dozen of his images of Donna playing with Jim Lauderdale Saturday afternoon, 10/22/05. Bob also generously sent me another dozen shots of the band's performance that night, which I'll post soon. (posted 10/25/05)

Flashback: Merlefest 2003 In the spring of 2003, Jed Greenberg was the bass player for Donna the Buffalo, Jim Miller was on rhythm guitar, and Live From The American Ballroom was the latest DtB release. Warren "Cat" Catlett, who's responsible for the thoroughly enjoyable WCAT Internet radio station, dug into his photo archive and provides us with a half-dozen shots of the band performing on Thursday, 4/24/03 at Merlefest in Wilkesboro, NC, the first of the band's four sets in four days at Merlefest that year. Thanks for the photos, Warren, and if anyone else has photos of DtB shows from years gone by, I'd love to host them on Donnafans.com. (posted 10/24/05)

New Photos: Norfolk Radio Station Performance On Wednesday afternoon, 9/21/05, before a show that night at the Norva in Norfolk, VA, Donna the Buffalo stopped by radio station WHRV 89.5 FM to play a few songs. Don't know exactly what or for how longed they played, but you can check out two of Bob Bunce's photos of the band performing at WHRV. If anyone recorded this broadcast, or even wrote down the setlist, please let me know: fans@donnafans.com. (posted 10/20/05)

Rockin' In Richmond Bob Bunce comes through again, this time with nine photos of Donna the Buffalo's recent performance on 10/14/05 at The Canal Club in Richmond, VA. Bob caught a great close-up of Tara, a shot of Tom from above, a few almost psychedelic images of the entire band, and even a shot of the band's beloved bus, which some Herd have taken to calling "Eggplant." A million thanks, Bob, and please keep them coming! (posted 10/17/05)

More Scenes From Shakori Hills When Bob Bunce photographs Donna the Buffalo in action, he does so from a vantage point many of us would love to have: onstage. Here Bob shares a dozen of his photos from Shakori Hills Grass Roots Festival in Silk Hope, NC from 10/6 - 10/9. He's got shots of DtB, Jeb playing with Keith Frank's band, Donna as Buffalo Zydeco with Preston Frank (check out Jeb on fiddle!), and more. Thanks again, Bob! (posted 10/13/05)

Kathy Z's Going To Be A Mommy! Donna the Buffalo keyboard player Kathy Ziegler is pregnant, with a due date in March 2006. Kathy let the news slip in an offhand way on the Tour Dates page on her website, www.kathyziegler.com. In describing a show with Jennie Stearns scheduled for 2/12/06 in Trumansburg, NY, she wrote "I'll be about 8 months pregnant by then, so come be entertained by my shape alone!!!" Congratulations to both parents-to-be from DonnaFans.com. (posted 10/13/05)

Jeb Interview In Virginia Newspaper In anticipation of this weekend's Donna the Buffalo shows in Richmond on Fri. 10/14 and Falls Church, VA on Sat. 10/15, the Free Lance-Star of Fredericksburg, VA features an interview with Jeb Puryear. The article's most memorable Jeb quote: "Making music, that's the really exciting part," he said. "The rest is a bunch of crap." Check it out at http://fredericksburg.com/News/FLS/2005/102005/10132005/135079. (posted 10/13/05)

First Photos From Shakori Hills Technically, Donna the Buffalo didn't play a gig on the Friday of last weekend's Shakori Hills Grass Roots Festival, but that didn't stop Terry Killebrew from photographing them playing. First he captured Jeb Puryear donning a cowboy hat and joining Keith Frank and the Soileau Zydeco Band. Then he got some great shots of the entire DtB backing Jim Lauderdale. He was on hand to photo Kathy Ziegler's solo set, during Jennie Stearns joined her for a few tunes. And he even managed to get a shot of DtB drummer Tom Gilbert sitting in with Native American band December Wind. Check out all of Terry's photos of these various performances from 10/7/05 in Silk Hope, NC. And Terry, I extremely grateful for your ongoing contributions to DonnaFans.com. (posted 10/10/05)

A Pair Of Pics From Austin Back in September, Donna the Buffalo made their first-ever appearance at the prestigous Austin City Limits Music Festival. Bob Bunce shares with us two of his photos of Donna performing on 9/25 in Austin, TX. Thanks so much, Bob, for your contributions to this site. (posted 10/7/05)

Just Added: Photos From Hookaville 9/4/05 Bob Bunce is the latest in a long line of generous fans who've decided to email me their Donna the Buffalo photos to use on DonnaFans.com. Bob just sent me numerous excellent shots of the band from many of their September gigs. We'll start by sharing three of his images from DtB's 9/4/05 performance at Hookahville in Pataskala, OH, including a fantastic shot of Kathy Z singing her heart out. Thanks so much for use of the photos, Bob! (posted 10/1/05)
