Help A Fan By Buying Advance Tix To The 9/10 Show In Saratoga Springs, NY

If you're planning on attending Donna the Buffalo's show on Saturday, 9/10/11 at the Putnam Den in Saratoga Springs, NY, you can help a pair of DonnaFans celebrate their wedding by buying advance tickets from them. Dan Smith explains: "My fiance and I will be married on 9/10/11. We are HUGE Donna the Buffalo fans, and in the world of dreams this is the only band that we would want to dance the night away with. My fiance and I assisted in paying for the deposit to get the booking done [at Putnam Den]. The venue owner is allowing us a chance to recoup our deposit by selling presales directly from us. Anyone who is planning on attending can buy a presale ticket from us; their name will be added to our "wedding party" list, and this will serve as a Will Call list. Attendees can call me directly at 518-728-5825 to buy tickets. I personally will be at the door to assure those who buy from us will be taken care of. Helping us recover this expense would be a major help to our family. It was a wild idea but with our wedding we wanted to do something we would remember forever, and celebrating with Donna and the Herd was the grandest idea we could imagine." Congratulations, Dan, and good luck! (posted 8/22/11)

New Photos: 8/15/11 Park City, UT

Donna the Buffalo spent most of August bringing the music and the good times to fans in the Western United States. After a stop at Dunegrass in Empire, MI 8/6-8/7, the band headed to Alta, WY for an appearance at the 24th Annual Grand Targhee Bluegrass Festival 8/12-8/13. From there, DtB performed in Park City, UT (8/15); Bond, CO (8/18-8/19); and Taos, NM (8/20). The Utah gig was an intimate house concert, and Don Pugatch shares with us 12 photos of DtB peforming on 8/15/11 in Park City, UT. "There is a great organization in Park City called Mountain Town Music that has concerts at various venues in town," Don said. "This was so special, cost 30 bucks, included food, beer, wine, water, soft drinks, and music. Everyone also brought a dish to pass around and it was a magic evening." Thanks for the photos, Don!

More Great Photos From GrassRoots Fest!

Greg Cotterill always catches Donna the Buffalo play whenever he can, but he never misses the band's gigs at the GrassRoots Festival in Trumansburg, NY each July. Greg's also an accomplished photographer, and generously provides us with photos of Donna the Buffalo playing on Thursday, 7/21/11 and on Friday, 7/22/11 with Jim Lauderdale. Greg's images show the band performing to a huge, adoring crowd in sweltering conditions on both days. Great Interview With Tara By JAMerica

JAMerica has posted a fantastic 9-plus-minute interview with Tara Nevins at www.youtube.com/watch?v=cOL7Nh_-woY. Tara reveals that it was Jim Lauderdale who suggested she work with Larry Campbell to produce her latest CD, Wood & Stone, and explains how grateful she is for how that decision worked out. She also talks about the story behind the songs on that CD, particularly the beautifully haunting Tennesse River, which she performs solo acoustic during this interview. JAMerica (www.jamerica.net) is a dual book/documentary film project dedicated to telling the story of the roots of the jam and festival scene. Tara's Wood & Stone is available from Funkside.com, iTunes, Amazon, and other outlets. (posted 8/7/11)

New Photos: GrassRoots Fest, 7/21 - 7/24/11, Trumansburg, NY

If something special is going to happen in the world of Donna the Buffalo, there's probably no better place for it to occur than the GrassRoots Festival in Trumansburg, NY. The band is always full of surprises at GrassRoots, but few in attendance would have expected former DtB guitarist Jim Miller to sit in with the band during their set on Thursday, 7/21/11, and again on Friday for the Jim Lauderdale and DtB set. Larry Franklin kindly shares with us 18 photos of DtB and friends from 7/21/11 to 7/24/11 in Trumansburg, NY. In addition to the Jim Miller appearances, Larry's photos document all the rest of the festival's most important moments for DonnaFans, including the Jeb and Friends set, Tara Nevins' performance with the Heartbeats and special guests, and DtB's always-legendary all-star Sunday night set to close this fest, which these year included guest slots from Sim Redmond, Driftwood, Hee Haw Nightmare, and many others. You can check out Gene Martin's recordings of DtB from this festival on the Live Music Archive at www.archive.org/details/DonnatheBuffalo. Thanks, guys! (posted 8/3/11)
