A Beautiful Review Of A Beautiful Show: 4/23/11 Shakori Hills GrassRoots Fest

Paul Roberge has a way of capturing with words the sights, sounds, and feels of a Donna the Buffalo show that few can equal, and fortunately for us he generously allows DonnaFans.com to share his reviews with you. This time it's a report from one of the Sacred Grounds: the Shakori Hills GrassRoots Festival. Here's just a sample of his review of DtB's performance on Saturday, 4/23/11 in Silk Hope, NC: "Jeb's prayer, Let Love Move Me, was stunning and emotionally draining in a positive way. The long instrumental introduction set the mood beautifully. The poetry that the composer coaxed out of that battered Stratocaster was set against a backdrop of lush chords on the B3, subtle cymbal touches alternating with driving rhythms, nice bass and fiddle lines. I think: Jeb Puryear has tapped into a rich vein of spirituality, beauty, and truth." Thanks so much, Paul! Photos from this fest will be posted next. (posted 4/29/11)

New Photos: 4/16/11 Boulder, CO

After exciting shows in Vail and Denver, Donna the Buffalo ended their 3-night Colorado mini-tour with a gig at the Fox Theater in Boulder, a venue they first played in 2004. Bill Davis continued to document this special run of shows, and kindly provides 6 photos of DtB playing on 4/16/11 in Boulder, CO. Songs performed at this show included a Funky Side opener, Story of the Ages, Front Porch, Let Love Move Me, In Another World, and Take A Walk on the Wild Side as the encore with The Believers and Sean Foley on accordion. Videos of some of this night are available on Ziggy's YouTube channel at www.youtube.com/user/aziggy63. "The sound system at the Fox Theater was just great, seemed that no matter where you were in the building the sound was perfecto," Bill said. "This set started off just hopping and was well played the entire time. They really blew the roof off the Fox and left people wanting more for sure." Thanks, Bill! (posted 4/25/11)

Just Added: Photos From 4/15/11 Denver, CO

Colorado Donna the Buffalo fans were treated with the band's recent 3-night tour with stops in Vail, Denver, and Boulder. Bill Davis was at these shows and shares with us 6 photos of DtB performing at the Bluebird Theater in Denver. The band's set on this night included No Sad Songs, Each and Every Direction, Ring of Fire, Love and Gasoline, Blue Skies and Buttercups, No Reason Why, Conscious Evolution, and Hot Tamale Baby. For the encore, DtB was joined by the Believers, with Craig Aspen playing Jeb's Strat for a cover of Helter Skelter, followed by a version of the Believers' Higher Ground. The night ended with a new Jeb Puryear song that began with the Believers and ended with just Jeb and Tara. "Too many highlights to mention them all but I will say that I love the new Jeb song that ended the set," Bill said. "I can really see that one growing into the rotation. The Colorado peeps I talked to [were] glad to see them back in town." Bill also shot photos at the next night's show in Boulder, which will be posted soon. Thanks, Bill! (posted 4/23/11)

Presale For Tara's Wood And Stone Starts 4/13!

The presale for Tara Nevins' new solo CD, Wood and Stone--which also will be released on vinyl--starts Wednesday, 4/13 on Funkside.com. The official release date is 5/3. Tara recently provided more details about the record and working with legendary musician/producer Larry Campbell at Levon Helm's studio in Woodstock, NY: ""I feel so fortunate to have had the opportunity to work with Larry Campbell," she said. "He's an amazingly talented and soulful musician. He has a very natural, down-to-earth approach and an instinctual insightfulness that I really appreciate; he really 'got' what I was after. 'Team Levon' was fabulous. Everyone made me feel very welcome. Levon himself plays drums on two of the songs: You've Got It All and The Beauty of the Days Gone By. Justin Guip did the engineering and played drums on most of the tracks, Byron Isaacs was on upright bass, Larry played acoustic guitar, and I played fiddle or guitar--the four of us were the 'core' band." Wood and Stone also features guest appearances by Jim Lauderdale, Allison Moorer, and Teresa Williams. Starting 4/13, you can preorder the CD from http://www.funkyside.com/store/index.cfm/product/310/wood-and-stone-tara-nevins-cd.cfm and the vinyl from http://www.funkyside.com/store/index.cfm/product/311/wood-and-stone-tara-nevins-vinyl.cfm. New Photos: Suwannee Springfest 3/26/11 - 3/27/11

How can you tell it's really Spring? Well, if you see Donna the Buffalo's bus parked on the grounds of the Suwannee Springfest, that pretty much confirms it. John Yust was at this festival, and kindly shares with us 15 photos of Donna the Buffalo performing on 3/26 and 3/27 at Live Oak, FL. John's already shared the setlist from the band's Saturday show; highlights included Front Porch and WV Rastafari (see below). On Sunday DtB closed Springfest with their usual epic all-star jam, which lasted nearly 4 hours and included Ralph Roddenbery, Rushad Eggleston, Jim Lauderdale, Sean Foley, Randy Judy, and others. The setlist featured the debut of a new Jeb Puryear song (working title: The Air We Breathe) and a cover of Bob Marley's Three Little Birds, as well as Sailing, Seminole Wind, This Goes, and Hot Tamale Baby to end the night. Thanks so much for the photos, John! (posted 4/3/11)
