Just Added: Photos of Preston Frank, DtB From Rochester, NY 5/21/10

5/21/10 Rochester, NY
It's somewhat cliche to describe a gig as "historic," but Donna the Buffalo's recent performance at the Lilac Festival in Rochester, NY more than lived up to that superlative. This was mainly due to the presence of zydeco legend Mr. Preston Frank, who opened the show with a group of musical friends known as Big Daddy Zydeco (left), which featured DtB's Jeb Puryear on guitar, creole fiddler Ed Poullard, former DtB members Tom Gilbert on drums and Jed Greenberg on bass, and Ward Puryear on scrub. This might have been the first time Jeb, Tom, and Jed performed together since Jed left DtB in October 2003. After this, DtB came out for a high-energy set that included You're Breaking My Heart (with Ward Puryear on scrubboard), Love and Gasoline, It's Love Time, and a set-closing, four-alarm version of Hot Tamale Baby, for which Preston Frank sat in on vocals and accordion while Ward Puryear returned on scrub. All of this action was captured by two of DonnaFans.com's dedicated contributors. Greg Cotterill shares with us 6 photos of Big Daddy Zydeco and 12 of Donna the Buffalo performing on 5/21/10, and John Miklasz kindly provides 7 photos from the same show, including shots of Preston and Ward sitting in with DtB. Thanks for the photos, guys! (posted 5/26/10)

Old Milwaukee's images include a shot that shows the size of the politely seated crowd at this always-popular fest, one of Tara that the photographer tastefully photoshopped for artistic effect, and a few of the band sharing the stage with Jim Lauderdale. I haven't received many details of the band's performance at this gig, so if you were there, send me the scoop: fans@donnafans.com. Thanks for the photos, Old Milwaukee Folkie! 4/24/10 - 4/25/10 Silk Hope, NC Leaving after their set on Friday, 4/23/10, Donna the Buffalo drove directly from Festival International de Louisiane in Lafayette, LA to Silk Hope, NC for the Shakori Hills GrassRoots Festival.
