Photos From The Mountain Music Meltdown
On Saturday, 8/9, Donna the Buffalo traveled up to North Country Community College in Saranac Lake, NY for the band's first-ever performance at the Mountain Music Meltdown, a relatively small festival that in 2008 also featured the Horse Flies and the Chris Hillman Band. Highlights of this show including another fantastic Mystic Water (the band had played this Herd favorite the night before in Rochester) and a scorching Voice In My Head. First-time DonnaFans.com contributor Jeff Sampson sent me 2 photos of DtB playing on 8/9/08 in Saranac Lake, NY, while regular contributor Karen Landau shares with us 6 shots from the same show. Thanks, Jeff! Thanks, Karen! (posted 8/16/08)

Photos From 7/15/08
Erie, PA

On Tuesday, 7/15--just two days before the Finger Lakes GrassRoots Festival--Donna the Buffalo returned to Erie, PA for a show at the Pepsi Amphitheater in Liberty Park that was part of that city's 8 Great Tuesday concert series. The band has a loyal following in Erie, having played there more than a dozen times since 1995. But few were expecting the huge turnout--an estimated 3,000 fans showed up. Larry Franklin kindly provides us with 12 photos of DtB performing on 7/15/08 in Erie, PA. In what Larry called "one of my rare forays down to the rail," he got some exquisite, portrait-style shots, including a few of drummer Tom Gilbert. In addition to many of the songs that appear on Silverlined, the highlight of the band's 90-minute set was Funkyside and the Hot Tamale encore. "Very strongly-played set," Larry said. "Huge crowd, gorgeous sunset across the bay and behind the band as they played...Erie loves Donna The Buffalo!" Thanks for the photos, Larry! (posted 8/9/08)

First Photos: FloydFest 7/24/08
Just days after what many are calling the most memorable GrassRoots Festival in years, Donna the Buffalo brought the energy with them as they headed down to Virginia for their annual appearance at FloydFest. This year, DtB played the Fest on Thursday only. In addition to 10 of the 13 songs that appear on the new CD, Silverlined, the band played Wood and Stone, Each and Every Direction, Rockin' Horse, These Are Better Days, Conscious Evolution, Funkyside, and Family Picture, and ended the night with a No Place Like the Right Time encore. Plenty of fans who weren't at the show got to listen to this set less than a week later, when it was broadcast in its 22-song entirety on RadioFreeAmericana.com on Wednesday, 7/30. You can purchase a recording of this show from Cool Music Network. First-time DonnaFans.com contributor Kimmy Tiedemann was at FloydFest, and shares with us 6 photos of Donna the Buffalo performing on 7/24/08 in Floyd, VA. Kimmy's got many interesting photos from this summer's other shows that I hope to be able to post as time allow. Thanks, Kimmy! (posted 8/2/08)

GrassRoots Festival:
The Grand Finale

One of the sweetest annual traditions of the Finger Lakes GrassRoots Festival is Donna the Buffalo's Sunday night closing set, when the band invites a string of their musicial friends onstage for a series of all-star jams. Among this year's guests were celloist Hank Roberts (for two songs, including the night-ending Family Picture), John Specker (for John Hardy), Billie Henry (for Slow Down), Sim Redmond, Willy Watson (for a particularly memorable Werewolves of London), Trevor MacDonald, the Balfa Toujours (for three songs), Preston Frank, Keith Frank, Richie Stearns, Pat Burke, and several others. The marathon gig started at about 9:15 p.m. and didn't end until 12:45 a.m. Intrepid DonnaFans.com contributor John Yust was there until the very end, and provides us with 12 photos of DtB and friends playing on 7/20/08 in Trumansburg, NY. John, I can't thank you enough for these and all of the photos you have so generously allowed me to post over the years. (posted 7/27/08)
