New Photos: Jeb & Friends, 12/28/07 Owego, NY
Jeb Puryear enlisted the help of a few musical friends to celebrate the release of his solo CD Hopes and Dreams with a special gig at the Treadway Inn in Owego, NY. The setlist included several songs from the new CD, including the title track, The Place That Lovers Do, Need You More and More, and Christmas Time, as well as two tunes with Richie Stearns on banjo: Baghdad Children and Seems to Want to Hurt This Time. The band also featured Kathy Ziegler on keys, Tom Gilbert on drums, Sim Redmond on bass, and Hank Roberts on cello. Karen Landau was at this show, and shares with us nine photos of Jeb Puryear & Friends performing on 12/28/07 in Owego, NY. Karen also shot photos of a similar gig Jeb did in Ithaca on 12/23 that I hope to post soon. Thanks, Karen! (posted 12/31/07)

Can't make it to tonight's Jeb Puryear show to celebrate the release of his solo CD, Hopes and Dreams, at the Owego Treadway Inn Conference Center in Owego, NY? Don't worry--thanks to the same group of tapers, fans, and techies who did last month's webcasts, you'll be able to check out this special gig over at http://webcast.haveyouherd.com. The webcast feed, which will include both audio and video, should start around 6:45 pm EST. Both Huntsville Shows Will Be Webcast!
On Sunday, 12/30, and Monday, 12/31, Donna the Buffalo will perform at the Crossroads Cafe in Huntsville, AL. With the band's blessing and the hard work of a group of fans, audio from both of these shows will be webcast live over www.haveyouherdradio.com. Previously, only the New Year's Eve set was going to be webcast. The 12/30 show is Herd/Fan Appreciation Day, where the band will perform a set consisting entirely of songs fans voted for as their favorites (voting ended 12/20). Thanks in advance to all of the people who'll volunteer their time and energy so that those of us who can't make it to Huntsville will be able to enjoy these shows! (posted 12/27/07)

Kathy Ziegler To Leave The Band Next June?
In an article that appeared in The Ithaca Times on 12/19, Luke Z. Fenchel reported that Donna the Buffalo keyboardist Kathy Ziegler, who has been with the band since 2000, will move to the Netherlands in June 2008. In the article, which is available at www.zwire.com/site/printerFriendly.cfm?brd=1395&dept_id=216620&newsid=19129197, Kathy Z is quoted as saying she'll not be at "this year's" GrassRoots (presumably in Trumansburg, NY in July 2008) but will be at future GrassRoots. The article also says Kathy Z is currently recording a new solo CD titled Bring It Back. (posted 12/19/07)

New Review: 12/7/07 Teaneck, NJ
Being from NJ, I was thoroughly pleased when Donna the Buffalo first played at Mexicali Blues Cafe in Teaneck, NJ last Oct, and practically delighted now that it seems they'd made the venue a regular stop. So I might be a tad biased when it comes to reviewing shows there, but I think the recording will speak for itself: DtB's latest Mexicali show was one to write home about. It featured a very happy band digging deeper than usual into their repertoire to treat us to relatively rare songs like Sailing (last played 12/31/06) and Nashville Christmas (last played 12/15/06), a few tunes not played since August (It's A New Day, Each & Every Direction), and the first-ever performance of There Must Be as a piano-fiddle duet (Jeb joined in--on bass--about midway through). Check out my review of Donna the Buffalo playing in Teaneck, NJ on 12/7/07, and find out why December is always a particularly good time to see this band. (posted 12/8/07)

Kathy Ziegler To Play In Ithaca On 12/9/07
On Sunday, 12/9/07, Donna the Buffalo keyboardist Kathy Ziegler will perform at Felicia's Atomic Lounge, 508 West State St., Ithaca, NY. Kathy will be opening for Mary Lorson; Felicia's web site lists a 7 pm start time for this free show. Kathy frequently plays with Lorson and Billy Cote as The Piano Creeps, who have a CD on the way called The Big Green Nothing. (posted 12/7/07)

Release Party For Jeb's Solo CD

This year's Winter Dance will also serve as the release party for Jeb Puryear's solo CD Hopes & Dreams. The show, which is not a Donna the Buffalo performance, will take place at 7 pm on Friday, 12/28/07 at the Owego Treadway Inn Conference Center in Owego, NY. It is a benefit to raise funds for the Tioga County Boys and Girls Club and will also feature Sim Redmond Band, Morgan String Band, and The Second Class Citizens. For tickets ($20 in advance, $25 at the door) call 607-687-4500. (updated 12/9/07)

Just Added: Photos From 12/1/07 Millvale, PA
Since 2004, Mr. Small's Theater in Millvale, PA (just outside of Pittsburgh) has been an annual stop for Donna the Buffalo. The band returned to this venue on Saturday, 12/1/07, still riding high off the energy of the previous night's show in Buffalo, NY, which was webcast live via haveyouherd.com. Highlights included Jamestown Christmas, WV Rastafari, Visitor (last played 5/3/07 in Cleveland), and a Hot Tamale encore that featured Dave McCracken, who has been manning the soundboard at recent gigs, joining Kathy Z on keys. A recording of this show should be in circulation soon, as will a copy of the Buffalo show. In the meantime, Karen Landau was at both of these shows, and shares with us 12 photos of Dtb playing in Millvale, PA on 12/1/07. Thanks, Karen! (posted 12/4/07)
